The Space and Spirit of Inner Peace
The mandala is an ancient symbol often used as a vehicle to open the mind and create a spiritual space for the practitioner. Metaphysically, it is a representation of the universe and the inquisitive path to enlightenment. The mandala symbols function as tools for interpreting the subconscious mind. The significance of drawing this symbol embodies impacts made in the artist's life as well as other's. In this body of work, the mandala is a structure where the artist creates her own iconography. The wall pieces, sculptural in nature, represent the chakras, which reflect her own subtle body. The paintings are interpretive portraits of people both physically and spiritually. The drawings address the energy or the path each person brings to every obstacle. As humans, the life journey is experiential. However, beliefs equally form the mind and imagination. Humans constantly look for answers. It is not until they look inward that they find what they are truly looking for- nirvana.
